Today I went to the office at exactly 12:01 to take my office as planned since all township officials take office on the same day at the same time in Michigan. It was almost instantaneous that I became bombarded with the bad news about how screwed up previous officials had left my township. From a previous auditor I learned that previous recommendations to install internal financial controls had been ignored. Auditors had been lied to.
Recommendations for new policies on other matters had also been ignored. I was coming into a greater mess than I ever imagined.
